March 2008

We have only been living here in Bellingdon a short while and have been amazed at the number of birds visiting our garden.

Here are some of the visitors to our garden in Bellingdon, March 2008:

On the left what we think is a brambling. They are very occasional visitors. We do, however, have plenty of clever squirrels raiding our bird feeders but they have at last been thwarted by squirrel baffles.

We have 8 to 10 long tailed tits visiting our feeders. They love nuts and fat blocks sometimes swarming noisily over the food.

They are delightful to observe. We had never been visited by long tailed tits in our old garden so this is a new experience for us.

A pair of coal tits also have also visited the nut feeder along with many noisy blue tits.

We have put up a bird box hoping to attract some willing blue tits to nest there but although the have taken a good look at it they are not showing any signs of making it their home.

Some larger visitors to our garden are three mallard ducks, two males and a female. They make good use of our pond and have become quite used to being fed, the female waddles up to the back door and quacks for food!

After a while the second male has disappeared leaving the pair to themselves.
