We think our pair of mallards have returned along with another male. The female is happy to come up to the back door for food followed by her mate. Most mornings either one
is there on the pond and as soon as they see us in the kitchen they come waddling up the garden for food. They are fascinating to watch, lots of preening and head bobbing.
We watched some interesting behaviour yesterday when the female was left on the pond by her mate when the other male was there. She seemed very unhappy and was swimming around quacking, keeping her head back and avoiding the male. When her mate returned he eventually chased off the other male.
